ROUTES
ROUTE 1 - Litochoro - Enipeas Gorge - Old Monastery of Agios Dionisios – Prionia (4 hours)
From Litochoro, follow the European Mountain Track E4 through the Enipeas Gorge, and up the side of the mountain "Zilnia" and "Golna". You will come to the Old Monastery of Agios Dionisios." There are many picturesque waterfalls, bridges and small lakes to admire as you walk through this stunningly beautiful area. Before reaching the old monastery you will come to the cave where Agios Dionisios lived the life of a hermit. Continue along the path and you will come to Prionia, where there is a restaurant and a bar serving refreshments. You can also get to Prionia by car from the road which leaves Litochoro between the Hotel Myrto and the Police Station, passing by the Athletic Centre "Piros Dimas". (18 km.)
ROUTE 2 - Prionia - shelter "Spilios Agapitos" - Peaks (6 hours)
From Prionia follow the path signposted uphill through dense forest. At 2,100 m above sea level you will reach the shelter "Spilios Agapitos". This shelter belongs to the Greek Mountaineering and Climbing Union. It is open from May to October and food and accommodation are available for visitors. There is a choice of routes to the summit "Mytikas" - from Skala it is about three hours, or you can follow the route through Skolio. Before you reach the point Skala (ladder) follow the path on the right to the point "Zonaria", just below the summit. take the path to the left to reach "Mytikas" from the point "Louki" and the summit "Stefani". Continuing along the path you will reach the beautiful "Plateau of the Muses", where you will find the shelters "Giosos Apostolidis"(1760 m.) and "Christos Kakalos" (1650 m.)
ROUTE 3 - Diastravrosi or Gortsia - "Plateau of the Muses" - Peaks (7 hours)
From the point Gortsia/Diastavrosi go uphill to the right through a dense green forest to the point "Stragos", after you have passed the point "Barba". Follow the path to your left to visit the picturesque cave of Ithacisios, artist of Olympus, while continue ahead to the point "Petrostronga". The scenery is enhanced by attractive bushes and tall pine trees. After you have passed "Skourta" and "Lemos" you will shortly come to the "Plateau of the Muses". There are two mountain shelters here: "Christos kakalos" at 1650 m with food and accommodation for 18 people and "Giosos Apostolidis" at 2760 m with food and accommodation for 90 people. Continuing upwards you will soon come to the peak "Prophitis Ilias" at 2801 m, where there is a small chapel. Continuing along the path will bring you to the highest summits, "Mytikas" and "Stefani".
ROUTE 4 - Litochoro - Livadaki (5 hours) (Livadaki - Simeoforos - Pagos - Kalogeros - Peaks 6 hours)
To reach Livadaki you must follow a long route starting from Litochoro and passing the points "Stream Skandaliara","Tsouknida" and "Pelekoudia". There is an emergency shelter here which can be used by prior agreement with the "Greek Mountaineering Club" of Litochoro. If you follow this route to the summit, passing "Simeoforos","Pagos" and "Kalogeros" you should be very fit and an experienced climber, as it is a difficult route.
ROUTE 5 - Palei Pori - Palios Panteleimonas - Ano Skotina (3 hours)
This picturesque walk, joining three villages, combines attractive roads and paths through stunning forests with chestnut, fir and pine trees. Leaving Palei Pori you will come to the beautifully restored village of Palios Panteleimonas. Continue along the forest road to Ano Skotina.
ROUTE 6 - Dion - Stream Orlia - Koromilia - Petrostronga (5 hours)
This gravelled path, starting in Dion, follows the stream of Orlia, a beautiful route with magnificent waterfalls and attractive ponds. At the location "Veli" you will find the picturesque country church of Agios Konstantinos and Agia Heleni and further on, after passing the locations "Itamos" and "Plakes", you reach the point "Koromilia". This point can also be reached by a gravelled road. Here there is a path through a forest full of magnificent beech trees which leads to "Petrostrouga", which joins the path from "Diastavrosi" and leads on to the "Plateau of the Muses" and the mountain summit.
ROUTE 7 - Agia Triada - Krevatia - Barbalas (7 hours)
Starting from the church at Agia Triada, this route takes a fairly easy path of great beauty, passing the point "Krevatia". Here you can see a new mountain shelter in the process of construction, financed by the Forest Directorate of Pieria. This route gives an excellent view of North Olympus and the stream "Papa".Carrying on your ascent, you will come to the point "Barbalas". This route is quite difficult, but you will be rewarded by a unique view to "Xerolaki" and North West Olympus, the wildest and virgin side of the mountain. If you are fit and an experienced climber you will be able to continue up to the "Plateau of the Muses" and the summit.
ROUTE 8 - Agia Triada - "Papa Aloni" (4 hours)
This is a fine walk through magnificent scenery alongside the stream "Papa". Waterfalls and ponds accompany you on your journey through a forest abundant with an amazing variety of unique plants and trees, starting from Agia Triada and ending at "Papa Aloni".
